In order to maintain quality control, we have our own asphalt plant within the City of Grande Prairie, and make all our own asphalt.
We can perform the following Asphalt Services:
We have completed gravel and paving projects of all sizes. In order to maintain quality control, we own and operate our own Asphalt Plant on the south side of Grande Prairie. We also own several gravel pits around Grande Prairie and Fairview.
There are many cases that we come across where asphalt is in not good shape, but it may not necessarily have to be removed. It may be more economical to simply overlay all or a portion of a parking lot. We have done this many times, and can recommend when and when not to do this.
We get many phone calls from people saying that a small paving contractor has informed them that they have some extra asphalt left over from a project and can give them a really good deal on some asphalt work. While this can happen (it has happened to us) no decent contractor lays asphalt pavement by the square foot. There must be a thickness involved. It is worth staying away from any any contractor the quotes paving based only on the square foot.
Since the year 2000 we have paved many roadways for the City of Grande Prairie, the County, and the Municipal District of Greenview.
Parking Lot Paving
We have completed paving on many parking lots over the years. Some have been small, but some of them have been quite large, such as the Prairie Mall Parking Lot (East and West sides), and the Atco Electric Site, south west of the Grande Prairie Airport.
We have paved many driveways, both in the City of Grande Prairie, and in the County. Often our county work has involved work on acreages.
We have also done decorative paving, please see our section on ( Stamped Asphalt Streetprint ).
We do pothole repairs, seal coating, and asphalt restoration on work ranging from residential driveways to large industrial and municipal construction jobs.
Asphalt Crack Filling
We repair a wide range of cracks in asphalt. Depending on the crack width we use either Hot Mix Asphalt or Bulk Commercial Grade Rubberized Crack Sealer, which is much stronger and longer lasting that the sealer available at local hardware stores.
Asphalt Seal Coating
Seal coat is a thin tar type liquid that is applied to the top of the existing asphalt to protect it from oxidation and damage caused by winter cracking, as well as UV rays and traffic.
Seal Coating is not a crack filling agent, and crack filling must be done prior to the application of the seal coat.
A properly applied Seal Coat can save an owner huge costs by significantly extending the life of the asphalt pavement.
In addition, may owners that are selling properties, have a seal coat applied to their asphalt, as it not only extends the life of the asphalt, but makes old asphalt look almost new.
For long life, we only use commercial, bulk, industrial grade seal coat.
We do a large amount of seal coating of driveways and parking lots, quite often in the spring, right after sweeping the lots of their winter ice control rock. Typically, it is not uncommon to have seal coating done once every four or five years.
Asphalt Tack Coating
What is a Tack Coat?
A Tack Coat is a very light application of asphaltic emulsion or paving asphalt on an existing pavement surface. A tack coat is used to ensure a good bond between the existing pavement surface and the new asphalt concrete overlay and between the layers of each lift of asphalt concrete as well as vertical surfaces that the new pavement will be placed against.
We do our own asphalt tack coating of our own work, and also offer our tack truck for rent (with operator) to anyone who needs it.
Stamped Asphalt Streetprint
Do you want to extend the life of your Asphalt and add an architectural element to your asphalt paving? Then consider Stamped Asphalt Streetprint. We are the only authorized Stamped Asphalt dealer in the Grande Prairie area, as such, we have access to a variety of decorative brick designs as well as a very wide range of coatings.
What is Streetprint ?
Streetprint is a patented proprietary technology and application process that produces realistic brick, slate, stone and other design effects on an asphalt base. Streetprint combines the flexibility and strength of asphalt with leading-edge coating technologies. This results in a cost-effective, durable surface (more durable that just the original asphalt) with low maintenance requirements. From unique heating equipment to specialized coatings, our components are designed to work together to provide a superior surfacing solution.
Streetprint gives unlimited creative freedom for hardscape and streetscape projects and empowers architects and designers to accomplish more with less. The cost advantages over alternatives like brick or stone can be significant. In addition, the City of Grande Prairie accepts Streetprint as Hard Landscaping for commercial parking lots which lets building owners increase their parking area and decrease the area required for high maintenance landscaping.
Finally, no more heaving and settlement of paving stones, which is very common in the freeze that climate of Grande Prairie.
Note: Streetprint or Stamped Asphalt is a labor intensive operation. To achieve the best quality of work, operations need to be conducted in hot calm weather. When this is done, the results can be very impressive as shown in the following photographs:
